Specialist Provision in Mainstream – Social Communication Class (SPSC)
At Breda Academy we pride ourselves on the level of SEN support we provide for our students, with inclusion at the heart of everything we do. We have three KS3 Specialist Provision classes, where the needs of the students are met individually within a small group setting.
To apply for a place within these provisions, students must have a statement of special educational needs, with a recommendation for specialist provision for social and communication needs.
Within the Specialist Provision, visuals and schedules are used to structure the day. The timetables are created to shadow that of our mainstream students, but they are adapted to suit the needs of each student.
In this setting, every child is seen as an individual and adjustments are made to ensure every student meets their full potential.
We have created a safe space for your child to thrive; within the school day there are frequent brain, movement and sensory breaks. We support all students emotionally, completing regular check-ins and helping our students develop their own toolbox of strategies for regulation.
Additional support within our provision:
-One Teacher and 2 Teaching Assistants at all times.
-Fully refurbished support room and sensory room.
-Fully equipped kitchen area in each classroom.
-Separate gate for entering and exiting.
-Different start and finish times to avoid mainstream traffic.
-Breakfast club in place.
-Maximum of 8 students per class.
-Separate toilets for our students.
