Read and Write is available for pupils to download for free at home and on school computers. Pupils can download the software onto any device.   FREE Read & Write Software Now Available for Breda Academy Students   All Breda Academy pupils are now registered to download and use TextHelp’s ‘Read & Write’ software at home for FREE.   Read & Write is a toolbar available for all pupils to download for FREE at home and to also use on school computers. The toolbar has a number of excellent features to guide pupils’ work, such as: dictionaries and picture dictionaries; text to speech generators; spelling, punctuation and grammar checkers; research highlighters; and a range of other useful features that can be used to form a personalised toolbar that suits your child’s learning needs. This software makes extended pieces of writing more accurate, and makes researching more efficient; this is particularly valuable for pupils studying for GCSE and A Level examinations.   Read & Write can be downloaded on to laptops, PCs and tablets, and on to Windows, Android, iPads, Macs and Chrome Book devices.   Please follow the instructions below to install this FREE software on to your devices:   Using the device you want to download the software on to, open up the webpage Click ‘Try Now’ Select your platform (Android, iPad, Windows, Mac OS etc.) and click install You’ll be directed to the easiest and fastest way to install; follow the instructions The first time the programme runs, you’ll be asked to log in with your email address. Subject Overview:

ICT is a department that covers a number of different courses covering different aspects of the subject. There are courses that allow pupils to learn about how computers work and how to program computers that follow a more computer science route. There are also courses that are more practical and allow students to use a range of software packages in order to create a wide range of digital products. 

Key Stage 3 Programmes of Study:

In Key Stage 3 students will study a number of different topics in year 10. These topics include Understanding Computers, Computer crime and cyber security and a topic on e-safety.

Key Stage 4 Qualification Courses and Programmes of Study:

In Key Stage 4 throughout years 11 and 12 students can study BTEC First Information and Creative Technology.

BTEC First Information and Creative Technology requires pupils to complete a number of coursework units. These units include Digital animation, Digital Audio, Digital Graphics, Digital Video, Spreadsheet development, Database development and Website Development.

Pupils will also sit an external exam on The Online world.

Key Stage 5 Qualification Courses and Programmes of Study:

In Key Stage 5 students can study GCE A Level Digital Technology or OCN NI Diploma in Information Technology.

Digital Technology requires pupils to complete 2 AS level papers on Approaches to Systems Development and Fundamentals of Digital Technology. A further exam paper in A2 Information Systems is required plus 1 piece of Internal assessment – Application Development.

The OCN NI Level 3 Diploma in Information Technology Applications is designed to provide learners with the more advanced IT skills required to function successfully in the work and wider environment. Pupils must complete a number of Coursework units including Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Using e-mail, Using the internet and Communication fundamentals.
