Welcome to Breda Academy

Our School Community!

Breda Academy is a vibrant and flourishing school community in its 10th year which continues to grow and build on our enduring achievements and move from strength to strength! It is a vibrant, diverse, and successful all-ability school in South Belfast with 825 students aged 11 to 19 and 95 members of staff. We pride ourselves on being a welcoming, warm, friendly, and caring school where we place a very high value on establishing and nurturing strong positive relationships between students, staff, and parents/carers.

Students are expected to be safe, polite, and ready to learn and develop core values and behaviours such as respect, responsibility, charity, and kindness, as we give these ‘values’ equal importance to attaining academic results. Developing these values will also help our students to be more open minded, tolerant, forgiving, supportive, and caring of each other regardless of gender, background, ethnicity, culture and/or religion.

We take pride in celebrating the many talents and achievements of our students, and in particular reward their effort and positive attitude, and encourage them to learn from their mistakes, as it is our central belief that much can be accomplished through hard work and by not giving up.

In the past eight years, due to the combined hard work and resilience of our students and staff, our examination results have continued to increase significantly. In August 2025, 96% of Year 12 students attained 5 A* - C GCSE/Level 2 grades and in the past 4 Years 96% of 400 Year 12 students have attained 5 A* - C GCSE/Level 2 grades. Also in 2025, 73% of our Year 14 students attained 3 A* to C A Level/Level 3 grades, meaning that in the past 4 Years 70% of 350 Year 14 students have attained 3 A* to C A Level/Level 3 grades.

We continue to expand as a community and in September we welcomed 130 new Year 8 students who are now flourishing and enjoying school life. We are very proud that the Academy offers all students a 7-year learning journey and our 6th Form continues to grow and thrive, and we currently have a record 184 Year 13 and 14 students studying A-Level and Level 3 qualifications and taking advantage of our new study centre with its advanced ICT facilities and a full-time member of staff as their study supervisor.

We place our students at the heart of all we do and provide them with excellent pastoral care to promote their wellbeing, tailored support to meet their needs and high-quality teaching to ensure they make continual progress in each key stage of their learning. The Academy provides an inclusive and diverse curriculum and a wide range of qualifications and enrichment opportunities to develop our students’ education, skills, and resilience to be successful lifelong learners, confident individuals, and responsible citizens.

It is our ambition at Breda Academy that students are ‘Learners Today and Leaders Tomorrow’ and when they leave us, they will go on to be future change makers and take an active role in shaping and making Northern Ireland and the world a better place for us all. To quote John F Kennedy the 35th President of America; “Children are the world’s most valuable resource and its best hope for the future.”

Please come and join our community!

Day 8 India We woke up early this morning as we had a very busy day as we were travelling to Mecleodganj, a town in India where the Tibetan community live. We explored the cricket stadium in Dharamshala first before heading to St John in the Wilderness, a cathedral dedicated to St John the Baptist. We then made our way into Mecleodganj and visited the temple there and saw all of the offerings they were giving to their god. After that we had lunch which was a chow mein for me, which was great. Then after a nice lunch we had time to explore the markets where I bought a few bangles and got pictures in a photobooth with Anna and Olivia. Finally we made our way to Norbulinka where we visited the Tibetan temple and museum and saw how they keep their community’s identity alive. After a long day we are all glad to get back to the hotel out of the heat and prepare for our lie in tomorrow. By Elise #proudtobebreda #bredaacademytravels
Our final day in Cape Town was a memorable and emotional experience. We woke up at 8:00am and got ready for breakfast, which was served at 8:30am. It was nice to have one last meal together before our journey home began. After breakfast, we enjoyed one final walk around the area. The weather was beautiful, with clear skies and warm sunshine, allowing us to take in the amazing scenery one last time. It gave everyone a chance to reflect on the amazing two weeks we had spent in South Africa. Later in the morning, our group gathered in a large circle for a debriefing session. Each student shared a highlight of the trip, a low point, and something they had learned. Many people spoke about the friendships they had made, the charity work we completed, and the unforgettable experiences we had throughout the trip. Some of the lows mentioned included the long travelling and visiting the townships like Langa. We learned to be grateful for what we have and not what we don’t have. The debriefing was a meaningful way to end our time together and allowed everyone to appreciate how much we had grown during the trip. After saying our goodbyes to the villa staff, we got the bus to Cape Town Airport and began our journey home. We boarded our flight and made a connecting stop in Istanbul airport before continuing onwards to Dublin to Grand Central. Although it was sad to leave Cape Town, we all left with wonderful memories that will stay with us forever. #proudtobebreda #bredaacademytravels
🇮🇳 Day 8 by Yigit🇮🇳 Today was an extra special day because it was my birthday! 🎂 I woke up at 8am and was surprised to remember that it was finally my birthday. We headed to the school for our workshops, which ran until 12:45pm, before returning to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon, we visited Sourabh Van Vihar, where we enjoyed a nature walk and even went out on the boats. It was a beautiful way to spend the day and take in the scenery. After returning to the hotel, we took part in our reflection circle and then had dinner together. Just when I thought the celebrations were over, I was greeted with another surprise! Brooke and I were treated to birthday cakes to celebrate our birthdays, which was such a thoughtful and memorable way to end the day. Feeling very grateful for all the amazing experiences, wonderful people, and birthday surprises. What a way to spend a birthday in India! #proudtobebreda #bredaacademytravels
Cape Town by Zoe Today was a long and full day, starting with this morning when we had breakfast at 7:30am then left at 8:00am to go back to Ubuntu to do some sorting for them. We went to their store room and sorted out the kids’ clothes by gender and weather, we then went and saw the babies and unfortunately said goodbye to them, as it was the last time we were visiting Ubuntu. After leaving Ubuntu we went to Tyger Valley for Lunch at Spurs that was chosen by Zack, Adrian and Bailey as they won the quiz night we had. We also did some quick shopping before we left to go to cool runnings to partake in tobogganing which was really fun and great craic, not for Mrs Glasgow though as she was petrified of it… After tobogganing we all went to play mini golf at Eagle Golf Ranges which was great fun. We then went back to the accommodation for dinner which was chicken, rice and garlic bread. A few of the high schoolers from Rallim High joined us for dinner as well; we also gave out speeches to our host Hamid, our tour guide Glenvile, our chef Mo and Elham who is Hamid’s sister and Michelle from Ubuntu to thank them all for the experience they gave us during our stay. #proudtobebreda #bredaacademytravels
