Personal and Social Development & King's Trust

Subject Overview:

PSD (Personal and Social Development) provides pupils with skills necessary for success in a range of activities in education, training and the world of work.  As employment opportunities change, and our young people are increasingly likely to make several career changes throughout their working lives, the value of this programme is becoming recognised. We deliver skills which individuals can call upon to apply to changing situations, in their work or community, whenever required.  This one-year programme of study, which is totally coursework based, credits our students with a Grade C GCSE equivalent.

Key Stage 4 Qualification Courses and Programmes of Study:

In Key Stage 4 Year 12 students gain confidence in researching, learning how to relate to colleagues of all cultures and backgrounds in the workplace, using their initiative and enhancing both financial and professional skills to complete a series of assignments.  The programme of study encompasses a wide variety of activities, all of which provide the students with conclusive evidence for their final portfolio. Our students are encouraged to work with visiting outside agencies, which provides them with the opportunity to broaden their horizons and gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of life beyond the classroom.

King’s Trust

We offer the King’s Trust Certificate in Personal Development and Employability, as an optional subject in Years 11 and 12.  This two-year programme allows students to gain and develop a breadth of personal skills, qualities and attitudes required by employers across a range of sectors.  The modules are structured to allow access to a variety of topics and skills.  Students will produce a portfolio of coursework at Level 2.  This will allow them to achieve the equivalent of one C grade at GCSE level on completion of 6 modules, or two C Grades on completion of 9 modules.

All students are provided with tailor –made resources for each module.
