Subject Overview:

Music is a creative subject and at Breda Academy students are given the opportunity to listen to, perform and compose a wide variety of different styles of Music. Students learn to perform on percussion, African drums, guitar, ukulele and keyboard, as well as participating in class singing. Music Technology also plays an important role in the department. Students are taught to create music using software programmes such as GarageBand.

 

The aim of the Music Department is to ensure that all students are given the opportunity to enjoy Music and perform on a regular basis in a positive and rewarding environment. It is a vibrant department in which students are always encouraged to realise their full potential.

 

Extra-Curricular activities include: Singing Club, Choir, Drumming Club, Guitar Club and Rock Band.

 

Key Stage 3 Programmes of Study:

In year 8 students will study The Elements of Music, Rhythm, The Orchestra and Musical Ensembles. In year 9 students will study African Music, Medieval Music, Musicals and Music in Sport. In year 10 students will study Blues Music, Film Music, Music in Gaming and Pop Music.

 

Key Stage 4 Qualification Courses and Programmes of Study:

In Key Stage 4, throughout years 11 and 12, students can choose to study OCN in Creative Arts and Digital Technology and/or Occupational Studies in Technology and Innovation.

 

The OCN course in Creative Arts and Digital requires students to complete units on performance, song writing skills, music technology and composition. The Programmes of Study for the Occupational Studies in Technology and Innovation include units on Digital Music and Sound Production.
