Celebrating Achievement at the Academy

5th Nov 2019

The students, their families and the staff of Breda Academy attended the school’s ‘Prize Distribution Evening’ on Wednesday, 23rd October 2019. The assembly hall was packed with over 400 guests, and a hundred pupils received prizes in recognition of their academic achievements.

In his Principal’s address, Mr Perry emphasised the importance of the Breda community being a close cohesive family, in which they all support each other to ensure students thrive and flourish. He explained that achievement requires ability, however to develop ability, you must first have a thirst for knowledge, motivation to learn, effort, resilience, and determination to never give up. He underlined the importance of the school’s core values of respect, tolerance, responsibility, charity, and kindness. Mr Perry closed his address by sharing his vision for developing Breda students’ education, skills, and resilience to be successful lifelong learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens.

The Guest Speaker on the evening was Clare Bailey MLA (Leader of the Green Party in Northern Ireland) and she delivered an inspirational speech to students and guests. Musical performances by the school choir, under the direction of Miss Broadhurst, included ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’’ by Crowded House and a Coldplay Medley, when the choir was joined by the school’s staff choir. After the prize distribution everyone was treated to a delicious supper prepared by the Home Economics Department and their students. As always, it was a wonderful evening and the school community is very proud of the students who received prizes and the students who helped with music, catering, lighting and speeches.
