Welcome from the Principal
Choosing a school is one of the most important decisions parents will make for their children. I am delighted to share with you some of the many successes and opportunities which we have seen during Breda Academy’s first year as the new school in South Belfast.
Strong positive elements from both predecessor schools have been brought through into the amalgamation. Students experience lessons which draw on new technology – including iPads for years 11 to 14 – but which are still based on the traditional elements of good teaching, positive relationships, high expectations and a focus on meeting the needs of all students. Our school ethos is built on expectations of courtesy, co-operation and determined effort from all our students.
Students have many outstanding opportunities beyond the classroom, in sport, science, music, drama and art while the inaugural ski trip last year was a fantastic and positive experience for all the students and staff involved.
As a large post-primary school with an established sixth form, Breda Academy can offer a continuity of experience and a breadth of curriculum that takes students from the gates of primary school to the threshold of university or employment. Our staff pride themselves on getting to know each student as an individual so that we can make sure they each have the best possible access to success and opportunity in the future.
Students from both predecessor schools were deeply involved in the amalgamation process, choosing the school motto, “Learners Today, Leaders Tomorrow” and providing the inspiration for our new uniform and distinctive school logo. The schools council continues to play an important part in shaping the new school and this emphasises how we have students at the centre of everything that we do.
The pages of this website will give you some further insight into what Breda Academy has to offer, but I hope that you will also take the opportunity to visit and us and find out more at first-hand about your new school in South Belfast.
